Want to upgrade Lenovo ThinkPad T410 memory

I am having Lenovo ThinkPad T410 laptop and using it from the last few months. It has 2 GB Ram and 250 GB hard disk and windows XP operating system with Intel core2 duo processor. Now I want to upgrade the RAM that I am having. I have decided to double the current RAM. So can anyone suggest me what to do in this case does I have to buy the exact identical RAM that I am currently using or any alternate will work on my system. Then please let me know what to do in this case because I have got the information that in Lenovo only the identical RAM will work if we are using two. Please help me to get rid of the confusion.

I have gone through your problem or rather I can say it as the confusion, actually there is no need to use the identical RAM itself because Lenovo has recovered their problem. Initially there was a period where we are not able to use any other RAM if one of the slot is filled. There was a compulsion that if we are using two RAM for the system then both must be identical. But now it is not necessary to use the same you can also use the alternate. As mentioned by you that you are using the Thinkpad T410 so don’t worry it supports any other alternate Ram. I am sure that using any other RAM will not give you any compatibility issue.

According to me there is no need of using two different Ram if you can use only one. I mean to say that you can directly use the 4 GB Ram instead of using two different. I am not aware whether two different RAM will work in Lenovo or not, in case you may need to buy identical one. So instead doing this much do one thing just replace the current RAM that you having with the 4 GB newest and also you will have to pay less amount the actual one.

First of all thank you all of for considering my problem and also for spending your vital time for giving the solution. I have installed the 5 gigabyte RAM on to my system and it is performing at its bests. Now the thing here is that instead of being fast the system is working slow. I don’t know why it is behaving in this manner, I guess it may be a compatibility issue or something else. Please help me in this case and let me know how to solve the issue.
