Check the steps :
1 - Download iPhone Firmware 4.0.1 here 4
2 - Download the programe "Exchange Extension" (search google) and install it
3 - Right Click On The File You Have Downloaded and you choose "Change the type (zip)" From The Menu
4 - In the Programs that Change the extension opens by ipsw zip.
5 - Open iTunes With The iPhone connected.
6 - Click "restore" while holding down-the shift key, That you must open Windows Explorer. Retrieve Previously Downloaded firmware 4.0.1. If This Does not work, and now press Shift Before Clicking.

1. Download PwnageTool 4.0.1 – PwnageTool Bundle 9.2.1 – Apple iOS 4.0.1 Firmware (. ipsw )
2. In your Mac, fund new folder and name it as JB on your desktop and put all the files in the folder after extracting JB .
3. Open the Terminal.app on your Mac and run the following commands :

If you have an iPhone 3G Jailbreak with OLD BOOT ROM and you do not use Spirit then you can create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0 and restore with the recovery mode. If you have a 3G iPhone with the NEW BOOTROM you can not use PwnageTool. If you have an iPhone 3G Jailbreak 3.1.2 ( not with Spirit !) , then you can create a ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0.1 and restore from the recovery mode or DFU mode. If you have an iPhone 3G Jailbreak 3.1.3 it is very possible that he can not go into recovery mode, if this failure occurs, you will need to restore in DFU mode.
