HP Envy 14, switchable graphics not working

    Hi all,

I have problem in switching the graphics. Whenever I try to switch to Intel graphics, There is no response from the system, I mean it does nothing. Also there is no change when I press the switch to power saving graphics. What may be the problem? I think it is the problem with my graphic card but I am not very sure. Can you suggest me any solution for this problem. Thanks to all who can help me.

Have you recently checked your BOIS for any setting. This can be happen due to some change in BIOS setting. If this is the case then you have to set the BIOS setting to its default default setting. To enter in BIOS setting you can restart your computer and keep pressing F10 key that will let you to the setting. Search for Default setting. Set the default setting and save and exit. Reboot your system and try to switch between graphics.

Reinstalling the driver may fix the problem. Uninstall all the drivers (ATI and INTEL)you can see on the machine. When you have uninstalled the drivers you can go to device manager and uninstall any graphic driver.

Now install the HP hybrid graphic drivers again. Reinstall the motherboard chipset driver. Its a chipset and not the graphic. Restart the system and see the result.

There may be some programs running in you system which is not allowing the graphic switch. You should close all the application running, refresh it and then try to switch. After this also if it shows you the same problem then this means that you system is still running some program in background and you are not able to see it. You should go to Task manager(alt + ctrl + del) and click on processes tab. You will be able to see all the process. delete all the user process except explorer and tskmngr. Close it and switch the graphics.

ATI is default video card if you are using wall power when you boot with envy plugged in and when power cord is plugged in from battery operation. This will be same if you have changed the default driver setting. You should close all the programs before you switch video cards. You are able to switch down to the Intel video card if you are using power cord. Basic thing is that all the programs should be closed before switching.

If you had tried to close all the application running and still can’t switch then you can restart your computer. This has happened to me many times and every time a simple restart fixes the problem. Close all other applications before you plug in the adapter. It will do it automatically by this way. You can try it. This is the best way. Hope this will help you.
