    iTunes lost all my playlists!

I was importing tracks from a disk to iTunes when it got crashed ? it is looking very annoying then after I opened up itunes again to discover that All of my playlists were lost and I got only 1200 songs in my music library where as I was having over 11,000 and hundreds of playlists!!

I tried the same in vain to figure out what's going wrong with this ? It seems my .itl file is destroyed , I searched in the directories and there are currently 2 .itl files??? one called: Itunes 4 music library .itl (corrupted) and some other known as : Itunes 4 music library .itl

Do you have any idea about this ????

Actually, I have installed the windows XP on my system and seems to have found a partial fix that does not include the vague half assed directions =P. You need to do the following , give it a try .. Just open your iTunes application ,move to the file menu, choose import and then choose the newest "Temp" file, I got most of my playlists and songs back that method .You also can try to go for this and hope it help ...

This is the suggestion for every guys who are having this issue. The .itl file IS iTunes, without this you have an empty library. This file is so necessary that this should be section of a weekly backup softwares at least, and always backed up just after any primary playlist creation or library configuration.

Commonly, replace the .itl file stored at the following location : \My Documents\My Music\iTunes folder with the .itl you so have been keeping as section of a back up strategy. The temp file method sometimes goes fine but is not a simple and feasible backup to a dedicated backup of the .itl file on a regular manner.

If you are getting failed to have a back up of the .itl or the temp file , sometimes some of the playlists and some metadata can be accessed from a completely synced iTunes library from an iPod, if your iPod is capable to carry your whole library. With the absolute program.

The temp files are not always available and they are assumes to be removed after they are applied to the .itl. They are never simply available on the mac environment , they seem to get hang around so more on the windows environment but based on what you perform after the disaster a mostly temp file could just be a temp file full of the latest "worst" library.

Just needed to write a sort note for thanking you to all posted the helpful information here. On finding the iTunes.itl file and having it again in the iTunes directory. I was trying to restore my iTunes library in the way which I had this before. I got this easy post, got the backup from two days before, dropped the file within the iTunes directory and everything is back into the common procedure . I considered that it would consume days and days to recover.
