You can use Android-Tether, it enables tethering (via wifi and bluetooth) for handsets running Android such rooted as the Android DevPhone 1. Customers (your laptop for example) can connect via wifi (ad-hoc mode) or Bluetooth and get access to the Internet using the 3G, 2G mobile connection or (in case you are using bluetooth) the wifi connection WHICH IS Established by the handset .

Androbex Allows sharing files (audio, images and videos) and contacts by sending them over bluetooth using OBEX push. Receiving files is not supported yet but will be soon. Can send to other phone types and computers. Reported not to work on HTC Galaxy Hero and Samsung. If you have any of these, you can try and tell us.

    Bluetooth File Transfer
Use your smartphone to browse, explore and manage files of any Bluetooth ready device, using File Transfer Profile (FTP) and Object Push Profile (OPP): you can also receive files and send contacts, BlueX OBEX. I use this software and can say that this is the best software for using bluetooth for android.

Since you will probably have to wait until Google implements the OBEX in with Android. The only thing that works is actually the story of the root, but when you lose your warranty claims. Although it is at least in the Hero can be made so again not the reverse and you can tell that it was in time period.

Through a XMPP server requires the laptop to be connected to the Internet. Do you think that application that requires Internet access is often a good choice? I mean, can you believe that future Android phones will all access the internet via 3G or other without problem? Your application does require access to the web, too?

In my opinion it depends on your target. If you think it consists mainly of people who can afford to have a 3G subscription I do not see where is the problem. After that also depends on what you want to do. 3G is not yet available, so it is out of question for me to consider a permanent internet connection. Me my application will not need access to the Web in its first batch. It will however be coupled to a website.
