I also have the same problem. Last night I download Emoji in my ipad. Whenever I tried to install Emoji on my ipad, one pop up appears stating that this application is not compatible with this device. As per my Emoji application is not compatible with apple ipad and that's why you are getting this issue.

Why don't you eBanner application for your ipad.
    It has following features:
    ★ Full support for iPad!!
★ Versatile Banner App with Emoji Keyboard Unlocker(iPhone only). eBanner can be used instead of many simple Emoji unlocking app in the AppStore and provides much more features.

You have to enable emoji in text messages in the following ways.
First go to the Settings -> First go to the General option -> Now go to the Keyboard option -> Now go to the International Keyboards option -> Now select Japanese and enable "Emoji."
    Just try this.

Use following steps to get rid out of this problem.
Charge your battery: Using the 10W USB power adapter that came with iPad, charge iPad for at least 20 minutes before further troubleshooting. If necessary, refer to "Charging the Battery" in the iPad User Guide.
Now try to install Emoji on iPad.
