    Problem with IBM T40 Thinkpad

Hello there, I have an IBM Thinkpad T40 which is installed with Windows XP operating system. The problem is the keyboard of the laptop is not working properly. When an alphabet is pressed nothing happens and when any numeric key is pressed, an alphabet is displayed. Also the system gets stuck up intermittently. Is this some virus problem Or an Hardware problem? Therefore if anybody else is facing same Problem with IBM T40 Thinkpad then please share some information which might help me in solving the issue.

The operating system on your computer must be corrupt due to which the system is not working properly. Sometimes the files which are related to the operating system get corrupt or are missing on the system. If the system files on the computer are missing then the operating system will not work properly. The only solution to the problem is to replace the files which are corrupt or missing on the system. If you have the installation disk of the operating system, then insert it and boot the system from the installation disk. Complete the Windows installation and then check if the same problem persists.

All the keyboard functions are controlled by a tiny IC which is known as Keyboard controller IC. Keyboard controller IC is responsible for converting to code of the pressed key to the code which is understandable to the computer. If the Keyboard controller IC is not working properly then the keyboard will not work properly. I will suggest that you get the keyboard of the laptop checked and if there are some problems with it then get the keyboard or the IC replaced. Once the keyboard controller IC is replaced you will not face the same problem.

If the system is not able to access the system memory then it will either not boot at all or the system will freeze intermittently. The possible reason for the system memory to be not accessible would be due to dislocation of the RAM from the slots. To check if the RAM is dislocated from the RAM slots. Open the laptop and remove the RAM chips. Clean the connecting terminal and replace the RAM again in its respective slots. If there are multiple RAM chips then try booting the laptop using single RAM chip and check the performance of the computer.

I suspect that the problem you are facing is due to faulty motherboard. All the functions of the computer are controlled by the motherboard of the computer. The motherboard is responsible for providing exact voltage of power to all the devices which are connected to the computer. If the motherboard is faulty then the computer will not work properly. You will have to replace the motherboard if faulty. Therefore get the motherboard checked by some technician and get it replaced if there are any problems with it.
