    Acer 5520G laptop not booting

Hello there, I have Acer 5520G laptop which is installed with Windows Vista 64bit operating system on it. Last night I was downloading some data from the Internet when the laptop suddenly shut itself down. Now whenever I press the power button, the laptop does not boot. All the LED's on the laptop glow when the power button is pressed and it shows that something is getting loaded but then nothing happens. I am not able to understand if the problem which I am facing is due to some hardware failure or because of software failure? Suggest some solutions if anybody is facing booting problems with Acer 5520G laptop. Thanks in advance.

It is possible that the battery of the laptop must be out of the charge due to which the laptop is not starting. If there in not enough charge left in the battery of the laptop then it will not be able to provide enough power to the laptop to start. Hence connect the laptop to the AC adapter and let the battery charge. Let the battery charge for about 2 hours and then disconnect the AC adapter. Once the battery has sufficient charge in it, try booting the laptop. If the problem was due to the battery then the laptop will start.

All the laptops face the problem with residual charge. The residual charge gets stored near the RAM chips. If such a situation occurs then the system is not able to access the RAM chips. If the system is not able to access the system RAM then it will not be able to load the operating system. Therefore to remove the residual charge from the laptop, shut down the laptop and disconnect it from the AC source. Remove the battery of the laptop. Press the power button of the laptop and keep it pressed for about 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, release the power button and let the laptop sit for a minute. After a minute, replace the battery and then try to start the laptop.

I think the hard drive of the laptop has gone bad due to which it is not able to load the operating system. The operating system of the computer is stored on the hard drive of the computer. If the hard drive of the computer develops a fault then the laptop will not be able to boot the operating system. To be sure if the problem is due to the faulty hard drive, open the laptop and remove the hard drive. Connect the hard drive to some other computer and check if it is working. There are many hard drive diagnostic tools available which can be used to find if there are any problems with the hard drive. Download one such diagnostic tool and run all its tests on the hard drive. If there are any faults with the hard drive which cannot be solved then you will have to replace the hard drive.

All the functions of the laptop are controlled by the motherboard. If the motherboard of the computer itself is faulty then the laptop will not work properly. Hence get the motherboard of the laptop checked by some technician. The technician will list all the faults which are there in the laptop. If the motherboard is faulty then there is no other option than to change the motherboard. Changing the motherboard of the laptop will surely solve the problem.

If you are able to open the laptop, then open it and locate the battery (button cell) on the motherboard. Remove the battery and then check the voltage of the battery using a digital multimeter. The voltage of the battery should be between 2.5volts to 3 volts. If the voltage of the battery is below 2.5 volts then you will have to replace the battery. This battery is responsible for keeping the BIOS settings saved hence if the voltage of the battery falls below the threshold then the laptop wont boot.
