    NTFS to MAC?

    Hey everyone,

Saw some possible answers out there to my question but I want to be sure since this is my wife's computer

Her laptop has ceased to work and I am at the point where I want to remove the hard disk, connect a SATA->USB connector cable and connect to my iMac.

From what I understand, her drive (assuming its NTFS and not FAT) will only have read access when I connect to my Mac. So I assume on my Mac, I will see the drive, and can at least copy the files over. I won't be able to write anything to the drive itself.

If that's the case then great. If not, and I need some form of software to copy the files over, please let me know.

    Re: NTFS to MAC?

The MAC should recognize a NTFS drive as mounted within Finder? Correct?

Also to verify, if for some reason it doesn't recognize her NTFS drive, even after installing NTFS plug ins, I should be able to just put the drive back in the laptop until I have time to have it done professionally. Correct?

It sounds like this shouldn't be too hard. Go out today and get the SATA/IDE->USB. Take out the drive and connect to the cable. Connect the cable to my Mac.

And if all is right with the world, Finder should see the internal drive, allow me to open and view its contents, and copy and paste them to the mac HD.

    Thanks so far!

Yes, when an NTFS drive is connected to the MAC system, you will be able to see it in the Finder. Also when you can replace the hard drive back in the laptop without any problems once it is connected to MAC.
