Yeah, its better idea to make iPod touch to sleep mode rather than turning off because turning your iPod on and off decreases battery life. There are 2 ways to use your iPhone to get a good sleep but here is the one i prefer doing so:-

    • On the iPod touch's home screen click on Clock and then click Timer icon that you can find at the bottom

    • Now set the time in hour and minutes

    • Once done click on the option When Timer Ends and scroll to the top and select Sleep iPod.

    • Now click on Set that you can find on the top right corner

    • Once done just press on Start to begin the countdown of the sleep time.

Many people do not know but you can also set the iPhone to automatically stop playing the music after a pre-determined time. Actually the sleep mode feature is hidden in the iPod. For applying sleep mode you need to go to Clock>Timer>When Timer Ends. Then choose Sleep iPod.When the countdown ends the iPod touch will stop playing video, music, podcast, or any kind of application you may have open and lock itself. Its good to keep iPod into sleep mode but leaving it in long sleep states will eventually drains the battery.
