VIXIA HF200 - Flash Memory Camcorder

Canon has a well-known and highly-regarded reputation for optical excellence, advanced image processing, broadcast television lenses. And they proved that again my bringing one more device called VIXIA HF200.This new entry-level AVCHD camcorder records at 24 Mbps, compared to last year’s 17, which translates to better video on your TV screen. It also has an improved image sensor, a more powerful zoom lens, plus it costs less than the 2008 HF100. The 24Mbps recording capability of the VIXIA HF200 gives you the highest quality AVCHD video possible. You'll see enhanced detail, finer gradations of tones and improved reproduction of moving subjects.

Video shot by the VIXIA HF200 of fast-moving sporting events, multi-color butterflies on a variegated leaf or the shading of a brilliant sunset will be remarkable.Like the HF S models, the HF20 and HF200 incorporate this year's features, which include Video Snapshots, 4-second clips used to create a "highlights reel" effect.VIXIA HF200 it has HDMI out, face detection and image stabalization. It doesn't have an on-board memory (the SD card is the only option) but at that price it's a camcorder with a ton of features that you'll be sure to have for more than a few years.

Performance and quality are top notch at both its maximum 24Mbps bit rate and at 17Mbps.It has several automatic functions including face detection, auto exposure, shooting control modes, and image stabilization. The camcorder comes with Pixela Image Mixer 3SE software. The front of the squat HF200 is dominated by the zoom, which has lens-shift optical image stabilization. Last year’s Canon Vixia HF100 was also an SDHC-based model with OIS, but it had a 12x optical zoom; the HF200’s 15x equates to 39.5-592.5mm.

This wide focal length will handle everything from close-ups to extreme tele shots. The lens has a built-in cover. Also on the front is the instant AF sensor, a stereo mic, as well as a small LED light and flash. The last item is a welcome addition and a true plus for your stills.

The advantages of Flash Memory go beyond the added recording time. You'll also appreciate the quick response time, because it doesn't have to wait for moving parts. Press the record button and your VIXIA HF200 starts recording video faster than you've ever seen before. However, it has a 3.89-megapixel CMOS sensor, rather than the 8.59-megapixel sensor of the more expensive model. The S10 dedicates 6 million pixels for video, versus 3 million for the HF200. Stills are similarly “challenged,” at 8MP for the S10, 3MP for HF200.

Because of Genuine Canon Optics, every Canon broadcast lens, 35mm film camera, digital camera and camcorder assures brilliant optical quality - and the VIXIA HF200 is no exception.Dual Shot is Canon’s easy mode, allowing you to simply aim-and-forget for photos and videos.

Unlike Sonys equivalent mode, you can record at highest video quality in this setting (MXP, 24 Mbps). You can only adjust the zoom, and cannot do any tweaking. The mode dial has to be turned to camera/video to do that. Another plus is the VIXIA HF200's low power consumption rate, allowing your battery to last longer.
