Citizen has succeeded in developing the world’s first radio-controlled watch with an all-metal case and caseback, thanks to a newly designed receiver featuring a highly sensitive antenna that solves the problem of interference. The light-powered model features a new CAL.H411 or CAL.H461 movement that is 2.35mm thinner than the CAL.A41x movements used in Citizen’s existing radio-controlled watches, paving the way for a new generation of elegant radio-controlled Eco-Drive timepieces.
Know as Promaster Pilot, the new model is the first radio-controlled watch to be included in Citizen’s renowned Promaster collection of sports timepieces. Thanks to its metal case and caseback, it is water resistant to 200M.
We selected a pilot’s watch to showcase our new technology, since pilots sometimes fly by instruments only and must rely on them absolutely. Promaster Pilot can be relied on for accuracy—because it is radio-controlled—and also for reliability—because it runs on light power and never needs a battery change.
Devoid of superfluous features, Promaster Pilot’s design emphasizes its functional beauty. It has a large display, thanks to the location of its slide rule function inside the register, and the dial’s appearance blends a feeling of precision with visibility, suggesting the instrument panel of an airplane cockpit. All this represents a new departure for a radio-controlled watch, and Promaster Pilot creates a new set of values with its fusion of “sky” and “radio waves.”
We will be introducing other radio-controlled watches (CAL.H410 or CAL.H460) with all-metal casing at Basel, in addition to Promaster Pilot.
