    ATI 5850 OC + voltage

    Hi,
I am having some serious issue in my system. I have a ATI 5850 graphic card which I had installed on msi board. Now when I run the overclocking within 2 minutes time the temperature goes a bit high. I had found that at 1.2 volt the overclocking is much stable on my system. I am using OCCT right now which is I think affecting my card. I cannot increase the voltage here. This I just want to do for testing purpose.

I had indeed never used OCCT in my system. I overclock my card and I think there is no need of working on voltage control. Usually the tool whcih you use only concentrate on increasing the frequency of the card so that you can get a nice performance. The voltage is thus adjusted by the card depends on the PSU you are using in your system. This can create errors.

There might be some loose of fps while you play with voltage on your system. It is really not recommended to addup tons of tools in your system and perform particular action with each. This puts lots of strain on your hardware. If the hardware consume higher voltage then it is heating up. You will need to stop overclocking at that time and try to get some new updates.

I had performed some of this thinsg with my Radeon HD 5850 card. Simply using the power of the GPU and raising the bar slightly above the level of the clock over the HD 5870 (850MHz). For this you can use AMD GPU Clock Tool v0.9.26, MSI Afterburner v.1.1.0 and ATITool 0.27b4. This three are the most useful tools in overclocking recommend for some advance work.

Install Afterburner MSI on your system and the click on the profile folder. This is needed to set your default profile which you can use again and again. There is no need to adjust settings again and again. Open the tool Afterburner MSI and AMD GPU clock tool. Now you can edit using the Afterburner MSI strain the GPU, the GPU clock and memory must be changed, but always with the AMD GPU clock tool. If you have the choice of values, you can adjust the fan control if necessary.

Have you tried Asrock OC Tuner yet. It is a user friendly tool which is worth using in overclokcing. This simply allows you to a proper hardware monitoring tool and at the same time you can keep a eye on the system while overclocking. You can overclock a system with, control the voltage, monitor a hardware of the system and scan system health with it.

Update to newest drivers first. There are lots of things which effects the overclocking process. For good overclocking stability you must have a good motherboard also. In my case my GPU was heating unexpectedly. I updated my ATI catalyst driver and then used ATI tool for overclocking the same. I had not so force the system for good frequency a tit bit did my work. Keep RealTemp running to keep an eye on the current temperature.
