    Vista resets explorer

I don't know why but for some reason when I try to view folders containing Image files in Vista the folder that I am viewing shuts and the desktop goes blank and resets. It can even happen if the image files are on a DVD. It even happens in Safe Mode, It's weird.
It doesn't happen all the time and it is not specific to one type of image file. When it happens I have tried opening the same offending folder in XP to find the cause but there is never anything that shows up as being out of the ordinary, just jpg, Gif ect. Xp doesn't have a problem with the files and displays them without a glitch.

I have even reformated vista once but it still happens occasionaly. When it happens there is just no way that Vista will keep the folder open for more than two seconds so you cannot find & remove the offending file and if I didn't have XP on the same machine as well I would be in big trouble because I would not be able to remove the file.
It is starting to drive me crazy.

    Thanks for the link Einstein_007,
I have been searching for an answer to this problem for months and your reply is the only one out of about 20 that even comes close to actually providing an answer for how to resolve the issue. That tweak sure looks like it may do the trick.

I thought the tweak would bring success but I 'm afraid the problem still exists. For example in a game I have on my PC called rFactor, it saves replays, but if you open the folder where these replays are located Vista still gives the error Windows explorer has stopped working and resets itself.
But if I log onto XP and then open the same folder I get no errors and everything is displayed correctly. This means that it is obviously a glitch of some sort in vista. How could they release vista without first fixing these problems.
EDIT: Worked out why it is happening! This occurs when Windows Explorer tries to provide a thumbnail view of multi-media content. If I go into Folder Optios/View and check "Always show icons, never thumbnails" the problem goes away. WOW.....So vista is still Mutton dressed as lamb. This problem is caused by an "unregistered Codec". Everey version of windows has had this unregistered codec dll problem in one way or enother since day 1. WOW...So nothing has really changed except for the amount of BS that M$oft puts into it's advertising. This crap was supposed to fixed with SP1.
