Help with "msiexec.exe has encountered a problem and needs to be closed" message

When I'm trying to install or uninstall a program my windows installer fails and a pop up window comes up saying "msiexec.exe has encountered a problem and needs to be closed"

    Error Signature:
    AppName: msiexec.exe AppVer: 3.1.4000.1823 ModName: ntdll.dll
    ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00018fea

I've tried every known method on the net to try to fix this but i cant get a solution

    • Update Windows
    • Used the method "msiexec /unregister" "msiexec /regserver"
    • I'm using the latest version of Windows Installer 3.1 (v2)
    • I also tried the programs "Registry Mechanic" and "CCleaner" to clean up my computer of temp files and to clean up my registry editor
    • i CAN'T scan my computer for Trojans, viruses or ad ware... and thats because what I'm trying to install is my Kaspersky Anti virus.
    • I downloaded the tool "Windows Installer Clean Up" but no good because i cant install it.
    • I've tried to install many programs and no luck

Plz help me with this problem

    THANK YOU GUYS

The msiexec.exe module is faulting in NTdll.dll -- and anything begining with "NT" can be assumed to be a file system issue of some kind.

    http://www.instant-registry-fixes.or...dlldll-errors/

It may be an "access denied" one for some reason -- if so I believe that will be one issue caught by the verbose logging file when it is created. What you will be looking for there is to see what the installer is doing or trying to access when it fails. Usually there is an error or two preceeding the final "I give up" message.

And another reason to run chkdsk on the drive as well.

Do try the clean boot -- you never know when there might be a conflict with something running.

And just in case there might be something malicious hiding -- there are online scanners you can run -- Kaspersky has one, and so does Trend (HouseCall).
