After quitting an application, Mac OS X Lion Freezes

I bought a 17 "MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard in October, and since then to get out of a computer program from time to time blocking. As mentioned above, the cursor disappears; the screen locks video but the audio still works and even control the keyboard (function verified by audio, of course, since the screen is locked). This happens more often with iPhoto, nevertheless it has happened at least once with all programs used. Whether the program is stop via command-Q, File / Exit or dialog in an application. To accurate the trouble should be forced to restart the computer system by holding the power button. This is incredibly maddening. Anybody else knowledge this or parallel? If so, any solution?

Difficulty: After you exit an application (either by command-Q, a menu or dialog application closes) the freezing of a draft: cursor disappears, locks, video display, but the music and controls workload yet. This seems to happen with any program from time to time, but more often with iPhoto.

Purposely, applications that cause the troubles you have in mind? You mentioned iPhoto, a video application which requires a large amount of RAM. You can control the amount of RAM that is accessed through Activity Monitor.

I can observe how this can be annoying. But here, I'm going to suggest more a "band aid" than a solution. First, if there is an unexplained delay or block, go to Apple menu / Force Quit and scroll down, you will likely see the application in red, indicating that a process is stuck. Force quit the application stalled. I would be fond of avoid juggling a lot of applications at once - a genuine confront if you're a multi-tasker. That's fine if you're using a desktop computer, nevertheless a MacBook Pro is not fast

To date, iPhoto, iTunes, Mail, iCal, Address Book, Safari, Word, Excel, steam (yes, a bit of Half-Life 2 is enjoyed from time to time and Portal), iWeb, App Store , Facetime.

Never run more than four at a time (Mail, iTunes, Safari + 1 other), usually 2-3. The trouble is not that I cannot quit, is that competition is blocked as the application closes, the cursor disappears and the video screen is completely frozen. I cannot surf / click in / on anything.

I had something like the other day - one minute iPhoto was working fine - then froze. I could see the cursor but could not make something happen. Quitting not working.

I've had a trouble transferring files from my previous iMac using an external hard drive - now says that Lion is damaged - nevertheless never had trouble before and my old iMac (the tiger) and cannot perceive! If I did not have a separate return my photos in a second hard drive that have lost all.

Disappearing cursor is an infuriating trouble. He has more than sufficient RAM, and its activity with no trouble well-matched with the applications you use.

If this happens with all applications, sorry to say that a complete system advance might be your only sane option. No one knows when Apple will launch its next update, nevertheless apparently they are working on it. There is a way to play with the individual files, but there is no way to expect that anyone can do this even if they had the experience.

iPhoto seems to be a common problem for many users. A user came up with this patch: That's a symptom of a damaged library. Try to restore from your backup. Or, if that is not possible:

    Option 1

Backup and attempt to reconstruct the library: hold down command and alternative while launching iPhoto. Make use of the resulting dialogue to reconstruct. Decide the record to reconstruct the iPhoto records from routine backup.

    Option 2

Download iPhoto Library Manager and make use of its reconstruct task. This will generate a new-fangled library based on data in the file albumdata.xml. Not the whole thing will be brought - no slideshows, book or calendar, for case .For the reason that this process creates an entirely new-fangled library and leaves intact the old, which is not destructive, and if you are not satisfied with the results you can simply return to their old.

I have the same trouble. 2011 17-inch MacBook Pro updated to Lion. Frequent freezes out certain applications. It happen most regularly when you close Firefox or iPhoto, nevertheless it has happened with more than a few other including 1Password, Chrome and Star Craft II. Display freezes and the cursor disappears. The only way out of this state is a hard reset by power button. Is this trouble isolated from 17-inch MacBook Pro 2011? I hope Apple is aware of this and working on a solution!

It seems to me clear that this issue is derived from OS X Lion, and apparently only occurs in 2011 of 17-inch MacBook Pro, because A) It never happened before upgrading to Lion and B) does not seem to be reported by users other systems. Apple please, for the reason that this patch is very annoying and a serious trouble in these systems!

I have also this trouble and that is "another" theme. I have had this problem since the first day I had this laptop. Have definitely some peculiarities of this model. I've had other MBP and never had troubles like this have. Let’s stay on task and see if we can solve the trouble disappears and freezing mouse laptop that is currently being discussed. Once my new HD comes in a few days and re-installs OS X from scratch and update to 10.7.1 and I will try to see if it still happens.

Re: After quitting an application, Mac OS X Lion Freezes

I got a quote of genius on my Apple store today. I took the Mac and attempts to launch 100 applications at the same time, then quickly quit at all. Worked fine. Not frozen. Then he tried to explain how I ended up just froze and quit Microsoft Communicator (since the last application was open and complained that it could not find the network) and BOOM! What happens .right in front of the employee genius of Apple. I was very impressed to say the least. We agree that regardless of how many applications you start or stop smoking, or what you are doing, the cursor should disappear and the volume keys still work, but the team hard lock. That definitely agreed it was a trouble.

They will do a full diagnostic test my system (several passes) to check the hard drive, battery, computer, etc, etc. and then we can rule out if it's a hardware trouble. Should then be in a format and clean install of my laptop and reinstall from scratch LION and then go on to the proof there.

I am having this same difficulty. It usually happens when I quit Aperture 3, nevertheless it can really happen to leave any application. Cursor disappears, Force Quit does not work and you have to hold the power button to force shutdown. I had not noticed the volume control, but it just happened again and I tried the volume, and the same thing - volume buttons work.

I have a 2011 17 "MacBook Pro 750GB HD w/8gb RAM and a lion. Also all software updates work as well. It is very frustrating. This happens several times a day. I just tried switching off the charts and have not had a single trouble yet.
