Why is there so many languages pack in Linux Mint?

Can anyone here tell me why is there so many languages pack in the mint. Well yesterday I just happened to install the Linux mint in my laptop and on installing it I realized that there was so many languages pack there and hence I was wondering what can be the sue of that? So that’s the sole reason why I made this thread. Well what I am saying is that when we select the English language In the system while installing then why does it gives me the option of selecting so many languages. When we are aware of the fact that I have selected the particular language. So what do you all guys have to say about it. Please let me know.

Well if you want you can reconfigure the languages pack going in to the terminal and running it as root. While getting in to the terminal type the following command 'dpkg-reconfigure locales' and that’s it. Probably that the safest solution that I can give you at this moment of time. So that’s what you need to look at and I am sure that would be the perfect solution for you at this moment of time. So that’s what you need to do and check if out if that works or not. I am 100% sure that it will.

I came across one question in which you were saying that if we select the English language then why does it gives the option of selecting multiple language. Well what I want to say over here is that it is a default behavior that is executed from the ubuntu and hence you will get to see such kind of feature. So that’s what I am saying here. You will also know that the Mint is just Ubuntu IMO, so exhibiting that feature from ubuntu is a quite common thing I feel.

If I remember then if you install the extra updates that you get after installing mint then only the features of extra languages pack does come in with the update, so that’s what you need to lookout and as far as I know there should not be any kind of problem with the languages pack. if you don’t want the languages pack then better not go with the update. That’s it, so go with any of the options that I have given here. surely it will give you some way out of the problem.

Re: Why is there so many languages pack in Linux Mint?

Yes the above user seems to be correct. Whenever I am installing the mint in the system then I am not using the internet at all and hence I did not get any kind of languages stuff that you have got. So that’s what made me think that the above person is absolutely correct and hence to support then persons answer I have started this post. So just remember that you do not sue the internet when you are trying to install the mint in the system, see what changes does it make. Probably that should be tried out by you.do one reinstall and see if there is any changes.

Ok thanks for informing about the same. yes surely I will go ahead with the reinstallation and let you all know guys about what was the changes after then. Lets hope that the update proves to be the culprit and I should not get the other languages pack back in my system. I will be carrying out this operation after sometime. Hoping that it will give me some improvement over this. so that’s what I am thinking here.
