    Installing XP on Compaq Nc400

Hi I have Compaq Nc400 laptop. I am using it from last two months. Recently I got problems on my laptop. It seems lot of virus is there in the system. Whenever I start my computer an error pops up regarding windows has encountered a serious problem. Later I tried to Re-Install Windows Xp with USB drive, but it’s not working. I tried it by copying the Xp Cd files into a USB Drive but still it is not working. I insert the USB before restart but nothing appears. Please let me know how can I fix this problem and will be able to install XP.

Hey looking into your matter, we will surely let you know about the solution. First off all don’t try to reinstall Xp through USB Pen drive. As reinstalling Xp through USB drive doesn’t work. There might be some problem with your Cd Drive that’s why it might not be detecting the Cd drive. Buy a new DVD Rom or the one which is working properly. Install it to your computer directly or with an External Usb case. After installing the DVD Rom insert the Xp Cd in the rom and start the computer. After switching on the computer keep on pressing Delete button until it doesn’t display Boot from Cd. After that the installing of files will take place.

There might be a Cd problem also. To create a new one, follow the above steps:
    1. Install nLite – you may be prompted to install Microsoft .NET Framework. If you are then, install it. NLite requires this.
    2. Have your SATA drivers (see above) downloaded and extracted to a folder on your Desktop.
    3. Insert your Windows XP CD. If it auto plays, just cancel back to your Desktop.
    4. Launch nLite by locating the program on either your Desktop or in your Start Menu
    5. On Welcome to nLite! screen click Next
    6. On the Locating the windows installation screen click Browse and select your CD/DVD drive (i.e. your Windows XP CD/DVD) > Click OK > Click Next
    7. You will be prompted where you want to save the CD installation files. Select or create a folder as prompted and click OK. The XP install files will begin copying to the folder.
    8. Click OK on the Presets screen.
    9. Now you are presented with a number of options – select the Drivers button so that it has a green light next to it > click Next
    10. On the Drivers screen, click Insert > you will be asked for Single or Multiple driver option. This will depend on the drivers you need for your particular hardware. I am doing this with a Dell SATA driver package and have opted to choose Single
    11. You will not be prompted to select a single driver INF file. Again, this is dependent on your own specific hardware. You will need to find out your specific hardware information from your manufacturers website so that you can select the correct driver file.
    12. You will now be asked to select a Mode and an Integration option. For Mode you will need to select Text mode driver as this the driver Windows Setup requires. You then need to select a driver from the list of text mode drivers. Ensure you select the correct driver for your particular hardware & OS. After you have selected, click OK and Next.
    13. Now you’re asked, “Are you sure you want to start the process?” > Click Yes.
    14. When the process finishes you will see a summary have the opportunity create an ISO file. Click Make ISO.
    15. Select a location to save the ISO file to and click OK.
    16. Once the ISO file is saved you can use it to create a bootable CD using your favorite CD burning software.

If still you are not able to then follow these steps: First enable the devices in Computer Setup. The notebook can only start up from a USB device or the NIC if that device has been enabled for inclusion in MultiBoot. Follow these steps to enable a device or location for inclusion in MultiBoot:
    1. To open Computer Setup, turn on or restart the notebook. Press F10 whiles the F10 = ROM Based Setup message is displayed in the lower left of the screen.
    2. To change the language, press F2.
    3. For navigation instructions, press F1.
    4. Use the arrow keys to select the advanced menu, and then click Device Options.
    5. To enable bootable media in USB drives or in drives inserted into a Port Replicator, select Enable USB legacy support.
    6. To enable a NIC, select Internal Network adapter boot .
    7. To save preferences and exit Computer Setup, use the arrow keys to select File, then click Save Changes and Exit, and follow the instructions on the screen.
    8. Preferences are set as Computer Setup is exited, and are in effect when the notebook restarts.
NOTE: To connect a NIC to a Reboot execution Environment (PXE) or Remote Program Load (RPL) server during startup without using MultiBoot, quickly press F12 when the Network Service Boot message appears briefly in the lower right corner of the screen.
