Trying to add Win7 Client to Win2003 sbServer domain

    Hello!!

I am having trouble adding a Client to my Windows SBServer 2003. I have completely updated the server through microsoft update and windows update prior to this configuration. I am attempting to add a Client computer which is running Windows 7 Professional (which is also completely updated).

When trying to add win7 profession client I followed:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc875846.aspx

but cannot complete the wizard because "an active directory domain controller (AD DC) for the my domain could not be contacted".

Please see attached document "Unable to Add Client to Domain.rtf" for a detailed/screenshot look at the process.

I found a previous entry for this issue on technet:
a domain controller for domain could not be contacted

I have used the above thread (which was not fully answered) to run test and included pertinent information that i believe will help someone with expert knowledge to answer what is wrong.

    Such as
1 - ipconfig /all from dc and client
FOUND IN Attachment: "Unable To Add Client to Domain.doc"

    2 - DCDIAG /V /C /D /E /s:yourdcname > c:\dcdiag.txt
    FOUND IN Attachment "dcdiag.txt"

    3 - netdiag.exe /v > c:\netdiag.txt
    FOUND IN Attachment "netdiag.txt"

    4 - repadmin.exe /showrepl dc* /verbose /all /intersite > c:\repl.txt
    FOUND IN Attachment "repl.txt"

5 - dnslint /ad /s "ip address of your dc"
    FOUND IN Attachment: "DNSLint Report.txt"

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I will respond quickly to any suggestions or requests for further information.

    Thank you!

Have you tried to Configure DNS for Internet Access in Windows Server 2003? The stand-alone server running Windows Server 2003 becomes a DNS server for your network. In the first step, you assign this server a static Internet Protocol (IP) address. DNS servers must not use dynamically assigned IP addresses because a dynamic change of address could cause clients to lose contact with the DNS server. Check for more information here - http://support.microsoft.com/?id=323380

Ok, I followed you advice and walked through the KB article you suggested but it seems i already had installed the DNS service and configured it somewhat (maybe incorrectly). Please review my attached Notes.

    DNS install-configure Notes.doc

I included lots of property screenshots from the DNS config that was already set up.

I also included error msgs from the DNS event viewer.

    Thanks a TON!!!
