The errors is caused due to page of memory which is unreadable by swap file to the RAM. This can be due to some issue with the hard drive or with the mbr. This also causes due to infection with virus. For this boot in safe mode and then scan with antivirus. Scan and check that it is working or not. You can run system repair tool with bootable windows xp cd and repair your system.

thank you Wali - i did go into safemode and ran a full scan on norton but after about 40 minutes the blue screen pops up - i have done this 3 times with the same result. I can run quick scans on Malwarebytes, Norton and Windows Defender but no full scans?

Have you tried system repair tools i think your windows need a repair and that can be done with the helps of the OS setup disk which you have instead of reinstalling you need to repair it then it will remove the bugs and will provide you new platform to deal with without loosing any data.

Well, if you want to repair your windows xp pc then you will need the windows xp disc or cd for the procedure. But before that you can also try to the system file checker by going to start > run and typing in sfc /scannow. I have heard that many computers have a recovery section on the hard drive and hopefully the file checker will be directed to it and replace that windows file!

Alright, since it is asking for the windows xp cd then you will have to use it then. Just put the cd and restart your computer and boot from cd, then again restart and let your pc boot from cd. After that it will give you options to install a fresh windows xp or repair. So simply choose repair option and let it do the file repairing.
