In simple words samba provides file and print sharing facility between the Windows and UNIX operating system. Sometimes there could be possibility that this software requires the updated version and hence it gives the message which is normally we consider as error message. Then you need to use the online update option of the samba software. This option helps you to avoid this error message. The updated version also provides the extra facility which is never present in the previous one.

re: Unable to update samba in Cent OS 5.2

Samba is free software which runs on most UNIX based operating system and it provides the file and print services on varies Windows based clients. It does this operation using the integration with the Windows Server domain. So, normally it could be possible that the samba is not able to integrate with the WSD and in that case we need to reinstall this software onto the system. As you mention that you install Cent os and it could be easy the installation of the samba OS. Then reinstall it and solve the trouble.

Hey dude, you need to upgrade the Centos 5.2 operating system because the error message is occurred in the system. But I must tell you that this upgrade message is not the error message and this is just the notification of that the updated version of the OS is now available on the internet. You can use either the samba software for update or the Centos.org holds the latest update setup file for the updating. Then just use this option and solve the error of the system.

Hey dude, I also work on the Centos 5.2 operating system and I never faced this kind of error message in this OS. But I know the basic reason behind this error. I think you did not carefully install the samba software onto the system and hence it gives the error message. If you had not installed it carefully then you need to install it carefully and it helps you to remove the trouble of the system. Then uninstall the samba and then reboot the system. Then install the fresh copy of the samba software.

Hey dude, I must tell you that you need to first update the Centos 5.2 and then update the samba software. You can update the os 5.2 version which is presents on the Centos.org web site. Then use the web site as source and then update the Centos on the system. Then you need to update the samba software. You can use the samba 3.0.28 rpms for update operations. This will also present in that web site. Remember on the thing that you need to on the firewall option at the time of downloading the option.
