Unable to install NIC card in fedora 4

There is some issue in the NIC while I am trying to install it into fedora 4, in the past I tried installing the same in the fedora 3 and fedora 4, and it was working fine as always, but it is only creating problem in fedora 4. When I am trying to install the NIC in the old gateway, it is creating some of the error. The procedure was right till it was getting recognized. I ran the Network Configure Wizard and after that I assigned the IP to it, but when I try to assign the static IP address to the eth0 nothing happens, the only thing that I can do is just ping the router and that is the only thing I am able to do. When I check the router I see that when the DHCP assigns the IP address the MAC address there is nothing that it should be there like: localhost.localdomain.

Hi, I just went through the problem that you are facing, I thing that the problem is in the imp proper setting that is been done in the internet setting, according to me I feel that the default gateway which is in the Linux is not set to the router IP address, so just try to see that by connecting it to the router with the help of the IP address and see how it is working, also if this doesn’t not work then you have to add a DNS server IP to the resolv.conf, this is required as you are connecting the network with the help of the assigning the static IP to the device, hope it works for you.

Hi, I just went through the solution that you have provided to me, thanks a lot for the post that you have posted but the thing is that is not making my thing to work, I tried start the services and also did all the required thing that is been used by the networks but it is not working for me. As I have done all the setting, now I only don’t know what I have done in the networking, as I have started the static IP address to the NIC card but it still not working for me. I am not able to understand which kind of the problem is been present which is causing the problem in it till now. I think that the router table that is been present is not able to update itself when the computer is booted initially.

I tried checking the services which was provided by the Linux to the device and I found out that the services which was required was not to the mark, which was creating the problem in it, as because of that I formatted the whole device with the presence of the Nic card in to it, once I completed the whole process, I found that the services which was not working in the previous section was able to work in this time. Now I think that it should be working in such a way that all the service that it requires should be in a proper way.

Hey thank you guys, the help that you all have provided is one of the best, it helped me a lot in getting the thing to work properly, I did as what you have told me but the thing that help me is that I was just frustrated and also was trying all the possible thing and all of the sudden it just started to work, and it was working on a K6AMD 400Mghz with 128 MB of PC 100. So I think that it should not be working lesser than the required values in it.
