Hal.dll file missing after using MSI live update.

Two days before I reinstalled my windows vista operating, because virus was affecting my operating system. The installation was successful and I had no problem for a few days. I did however notice that my system was noticeably slower than before and I thought it was because some drivers are not (correctly) installed. After that I found a MSI Live Update from the internet search and it’s a good idea to run this in my system. The first thing I did was run the BIOS update. After that I got this message:
    cmos checksum bad
    F1 to run setup
F2 to load default values and continue
I think it’s a problem of hal.dll file. I think it’s missing from my system. That’s why it’s not helping to reboot my system. Please help me.

Re: Hal.dll file missing after using MSI live update.

Hi I am facing similar kind of problem. After using MSI live update I try to boot my PC and I got the following error message
Unable to start window following file is missing
    <windows-main folder>\system32\hal.dll
please re-installs the file mentioned above.

Not knowing what to do next I tried to reinstall Windows. That seems impossible though. The DVD does not boot Windows. Next I tried to replace the hal.dll file a new one. I planned to start my pc from a DVD using Knoppix and replace the file there, but my pc does not identify Knoppix. I spent the rest of the day looking for solutions but have not found any web site. I found that many people are facing same problem with MSI live update. And what’s this hal.dll file? What it exactly do with system component, I really hope someone can help me. Thank you.

Hello, nowadays many people are facing problem with MSI live update. Basically live update affects your system after using rebooting your system. It has many disadvantages. But that’s the not issue you are facing problem with reinstalling then for that unplug your PSU from A?C power and then clear your CMOS after that start your BIOS setup by pressing F1 when message is prompted. And then load optimized defaults. After that save this setting and exit form that window by pressing F10 and now try to reinstall your windows operating system again.

Re: Hal.dll file missing after using MSI live update.

Hal.dll file is known as abstraction layer; it is located between hardware of a computer and software which is run on a computer. Its purpose is to cover differences in hardware from most of the operating system kernel, so most of the kernel-mode code does not need to be customized to run on systems with different hardware. On a PC, hal.dll can basically be considered as the organizer of the motherboard and it passes instructions from higher-level languages to low-level components, for example, directly with the hardware.

Hardware abstraction layers are still lower level programming languages for API, as they work together directly with hardware as an alternative of a kernel, hal.dll therefore need less processing time the API. The high-level languages repeatedly use hal.dll and API to communicate with downstream components. Operating systems have a defined HAL easily portable across different hardware. This is especially important for embedded systems that run on different platforms. I hope now you are clear with this hal.dll file working.

This happened to me several times already - checked in the bios if you have the correct boot disk - my boot order is going to change and make the mistake of missing hal.dll file. Just take a look at the manual. Or browse through options in the BIOS. Must be easy to understand the boot sequence before reboot, please do this first, and suppose that your operating system may be corrupted after the update Live. A repair of the operating system can help. I hope this information will help you to solve your problem.
