How to multiboot windows vista and Ubuntu 10.10

I made the decision to move now has Ubuntu 10.10 but unfortunately I'm having a problem after installation, I wish first to explain this difficulty in question which is that despite my many searches, I found (no disrespect to anyone) no positions understandable enough to remedy my problem. My specific problem is related to the installation of Ubuntu, and more particularly to partition my hard drive. It turns out that I have Windows vista install on this drive and I do not want to get rid of it that I will want to install Ubuntu and be able to choose to boot my PC operating system I want to use. Is this possible? If yes How to install Ubuntu without risking damage or Windows vista? How do I method for partitioning my drive (have links to tutorial)? Thank you to all in advance.

I think you do not search this issue properly because on the official website of ubuntu you will get guide regarding this issue. Actually when one of my friend need information regarding this then he get the related information on to the official website. So I will also suggest you to go for the same and you will also get many video file regarding this so just go for this. And after that you just post your result so that others also can get the advantage for this.

I followed the tutorial video that my recommended Anne, so I reduce the Windows partition (C to leave space for Ubuntu but when I start installing it I found out my score 80GB but impossible to change, the more it appears as follows: "unnecessary." Here is the list of devices:
    • dev / sda
    • dev/sda1
    • dev/sda2
    • inutil.
    • dev/sda3
    • dev/sda4
    • dev / sdb
    • dev/sdb1

How must I proceed? I am little worried about this.

In order to fix this issue first you have to try to start the installation directly. If I'm not mistaken, it must allow partitioning (to reduce windows vista) from the inside. So do not touch anything from Windows and see if you can do a manual partitioning. This is just an indication. Wait for other answers, because I have more memory if there restlessness. So this is what I know regarding this so I hope this information will help you in order to get solution for this query.

Indeed a disk can only have 4 primary partitions or 3 primary + 1 extended. To know the partitioning should be in LiveCD give the result of the command:
    Code:
    sudo fdisk-l
In your case the principle would be to delete a primary partition and create an extended partition where you can then create as many partitions as necessary.
