Regarding this issue I want to you one question is that In your grub is what you can enter the first line, and do you see your online edition? If yes: you can add the option set at the end of the first line and press "ctrl X" to boot with the option considered. In that case do the terminal command sudo update-grub. If no:
    • From your Live CD
    • You can add the option in your grub nomodeset on your internal drive (or external)
    • By alter the section # # # BEGIN / etc/grub.d/10_linux # # #
    • At the end of the line ending with quiet splash

Re: Unable to get GUI after booting with Ubuntu 10.10

Before the upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10 (both 32bits), I wanted to try the LiveCD of 10.10 because I had problems with my graphics card. When starting on this Live CD, I can easily choose to "try Ubuntu" / "Install Ubuntu" desktop background on Gnome. But when I click "try Ubuntu", the graphics server does not load, and I find myself in console mode. This is not exactly like when you do Alt + F1 to F6 in normal (not written "tty" for example, but a cynic "Welcome to Ubuntu!"). So regarding this please help me.Some details:
    • My graphics card: Intel Corporation Integrated Graphics Controller 82945G/GZ
    • If I alt + F7, I see a series of lines in orange and white, Temin by "checking battery state [OK]"
    • MD5 checked before burning the LiveCD, 3 consecutive prints for the same result.

Looks like this is not the same problem as samnoz, coming as it does in text mode at startup while you have a "-" appears. I'm not saying this is not the same cause, but this is unlikely. As usual, I advise you to start a new discussion. It will explain in more detail the history of your problem: it is a first install of Ubuntu? In this test case at least 10.4 in the live CD. Otherwise, what did you do before you "reboot"? I can not help you more.
