xp will not reboot

windows xp shut down unexpectily and will not reboot in normal or safe mode,please help.

Can you please give us more information regarding, how did windows xp shutdown start or so? Did you install any application in your computer? Is you computer protected by any antivirus system? I believe soon you get the error message on the screen and it goes to scandisk screen and trying to scan the hard drive. If it does so, please let it go to scan entire drive. You can try to uninstall the causing issue update - from Control Panel - Add and Remove Programs - select updates, and uninstall the one.

Windows xp was installing updates and required a restart,upon restart it would not reboot in safe or normal mode.After reading several forums,i then installed the xp operating disk, went to the command prompt,typed in CHKDSK i was told i had a bad boot sector,i then typed in FIXBOOT,xp was repaired and everything came to normal.I thank everyone for all the info i have read,it was a great help.
