Removing xine-player packages leads to desktop lost

Recently, I have removed the entire packages that came with my xine-player as well as freevo media center. Actually I was so precise to delete packages since now I am missing my desktop. If I try to start now then I can just login from the terminal but it does not show me any GUI at all. This is the first time it happens with me so I have less idea about this. Can you tell me if there is any way by which I will be able to resolve the problem? Thank you very much in advance for reading and replying to this question.

This seems that you have deleted the gnome-desktop from the system and that is why it is showing you the blank screen. If that is the case then you will have to login to the CLI and perform the below thing.
    sudo apt-get install gnome-desktop
    sudo reboot
So try this out and check if that can resolve the issue nfor you or not. It will show you the desktop if that is due to deleted gnome-desktop. Thank you.

There may be some of the packages that are broken in your system and that is creating the problem for your desktop to be visible. You can try to use the things like recovery mode-fix broken packages and see if that can help you. They will rebuild the broken packages then after fixing that the issue should not be happen again. This is one of the possible reason and the solution for such problems. I hope that this will help you.

If you are getting such problem with Linux Mint 9 then you can switch to the Linux mint 10. This will give you better service then the Mint 9. I am also having the mint 10 installed in my system and I never faced the issues like this. So my suggestion to you is to download and install the Linux mint 10 and get out of all the issue that you are facing with the mint 9.

Before doing anything else to fix this issue, you can try the code given below. But this is only when you are getting problem in the steps given by Zhankana. If that is not able to solve the issue then this can help you with some modification in the command.
    sudo apt-get upgrade
    sudo apt-get install gnome-desktop
    sudo reboot
Before doing this you should make sure that you are having the proper internet connection. After confirming that only execute the code given above.

First of all, try all the solutions that are given above and also all other possible solution that you know. If after doing that also the issue is not getting resolved then the only option left for you is to install the operating system again in your system. This will definitely solve the issue. But make sure that this is your last option for this if all the other things fail to work.
