Error "Unmountable Boot Volume" in vista

I was having desktop with windows XP operating system installed on it. Due to the advancement in technology I have changed myself from desktop to laptop with vista operating system installed on it. While using vista I am getting an error message “Unmountable Boot Volume and needs to shut down immediately”. I have tried to unplug all the external devices connected to my laptop and restarted my system but the same problem persists again and again. I need solution for troubleshooting this problem.

You can resolve the problem of Unmountable boot volume by configuring the BIOS settings. You should change the BIOS settings to use “fail safe” default settings and then reactivate the options. You should also try to replace the UDMA cable. UDMA cable should be replaced by 80 wire cable and check if the problems of Unmountable boot volume persists again.

The Unmountable boot volume error might be appearing because of corrupted file system. You need to recover the corrupted file system. In order to recover the corrupted file system you will require using Recovery Console. To use the recovery console you need to login into the system as administrator and type chkdsk /r command on the console and your corrupted file system will be repaired. You can fix the Unmountable boot volume error by installing the latest windows update.

To repair the corrupted file system you need to follow the steps given below.
    1. Insert the CD into the CD-Rom drive.
    2. When the keyboards light start to flash press the ESC key from the keyboard.
    3. Now you need to select CD-ROM. After selecting CD-ROM press the enter key.
    4. When the “Press any key to boot from CD” appears press any key from the keyboard. To enter into the recovery console press R from the keyboard.

While using the recovery console and repairing the files system if the problems of Unmountable boot volume error persists again then in that case you need to use Fixboot command inspite of using chkdsk/r command. If the problem is solved then it ok otherwise you may contact the customer support services and they will resolve this problem.
