Cannot install Ubuntu 10.04 from disc

According to the advice of many experts, I decided to install Ubuntu 10.04 in my computer. Earlier I was using the older version of that on a partition. I removed that and then I tried to install the 10.04.

To do that, I booted from the disc and it started to install it. During installation, I saw four red dots that were light up backwards and forwards. This was continued for about 1 minute and after that all the things get stopped and entire screen went blank. To see the problem I went to the disc management for Windows XP and got the below mentioned information for the outlined boxes:

    BOX 1:
Disc 0 Basic 55.89 GB online.

    BOX 2:
C: 30.60 GB NTFS Healthy (System)

    BOX 3:
    24.20 GB Unallocated

    BOX 4:
    1.09 GB Free Space
If you have any idea about this issue then please let me know. Thank you in advance.

There may be the problem with the Disk that you are using to install the Ubuntu. The disc that you are using is badly burned and therefore it is creating the problem for you. Try to install it from some other CD and make sure that you write that CD well. Behalf of that, I would like to advise you to join box 3 & 4 together except you require keeping them disconnect.

According to me, the problem is with the RAM in your system. It may got an adequate amount of installed and therefore it is not able to handle the 10.04's demands. This is one of the possible reasons behind this. There are many other possible reasons but this is the important one that you should check for. I would also like to suggest you to try Mint. You will find that Mint is more user friendly then the Ubuntu.

Re: Cannot install Ubuntu 10.04 from disc

I burned the CD for Ubuntu K3B at 8x speed and I started my computer and went for the installation of the Ubuntu then the installation process gets aborted at about 45%. After that I put the disc to some other optical drive and I found that the installation gets completed without any problem. You can also try one more thing, just go to the BIOS settings in your computer and lower the speed for the RAM. So you can either try another CD drive or you can lower the settings for the RAM.
