How to open Mac files on Fusion

I have Mac OS X 10.5.8 installed on my computer. On this computer, I am also running Windows Vista which is installed via VMware Fusion. Right now I am working on Windows Vista but I want some files which are stored on Mac to be accessible. How can I have it? How can I transfer or copy the files from Mac operating system to Windows Vista operating system installed on the same machine? Is there any tool that I need to get those files?

Which type of file are you trying to open on VMware Fusion? If it is an exe file then it is not an easy to open the file. But if you have Intel Processor on your mac computer then there is a possibility of opening the file. All you have to do is make the folder containing the file as shared. This will allow your Windows Vista operating system to access those files.

There are three ways to open the Mac files in Windows. First is save the file, on mac, with the same application from which you will be opening the file on Windows computer. Also make sure the saved file has proper extension. If this doesn't work or if you don't have the supported application on Mac installation, then save the file in common file format which other applications can even open it. If none of the above method works then the last option is to go for some software which converts mac files to windows supported file.

Mac has an built-in feature which allows you to share a file create in Mac to be shared in Windows. This feature is known as Windows Sharing. Go to Mac installation and then Services. Select System Preferences' Sharing panel. Mark "Windows sharing" check box. You will be asked if you want to "enable an account to use Windows sharing". Click on "Enable Accounts" button and select a user. You will then get a window which confirms the completion of the process with the name of the user whose account can be accessed from Windows. Make a note of it and see if you can access the files and folders with that username.

You can even install a free software to open your MAC files on Windows platform. The software supporting this feature is known as TransMac. It works on all Windows NT computers. It features:
    • Read and write Mac format disks, CD/DVD(DL)/Blu-ray media, high density floppies and disk image files (dmg and sparseimage).
    • Supports standard HFS (Mac OS Standard), HFS+ (Mac OS Extended) and HFSX (with case sensitive file names) volumes.
    • Access Mac volumes on boot drive (like Boot Camp).
    • Create, read and write Mac disk image files (dmg and sparseimage).
    • Compress and expand (convert to iso) dmg files.
    • Built in burner function to create Mac format CD, DVD(DL), and Blu-ray media.
    • Burn ISO and dmg files to CD/DVD/Blu-Ray.
    • Format disks for use on Mac.
    • Read Mac multisession and hybrid media.
