How to run Windows 3.1 in Windows XP machine?

I using the windows XP pro operating system compatible run in the in my brand new bought HP computer at my home. Which runs perfect in the system. The problem is I am not able to install any card studio program in my machine , while I tried for this I always got a application error by appearing a pop up window. It causes a general protection error in fault the module studio program the error code is 0006.1176. And after flashing the message the application will close automatically. I though there is a initial problem in the installation program. After that I wish to install the Windows 3.1- 16 bit - program in my Windows XP pro supported machine, but it also not installed. Whereas it will install in my another machine which also run in the same specification teat I had mentioned in the above. What should I do for the blocking of the installation in the one computer but that should be not for the other. Any idea on this issue?

The separate partition on the computer will needed in the computer while you attempting to install the Win3.1 16-bit program in to your windows XP pro operating system running machine. It will give you the dual boot facility while you go for the booting in the system. I would like to suggest you to along with the program install a virtual machine that you can may use the Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 or the Open Source VirtualBox. These both are useful for running the another operating system with the other program. The program will run inside of that virtual machine, it will works like the XP application that you are running in your system. You just download and install the 16-bit win 3.1 program into your virtual machine along with the windows XP pro operating system. By this way you can avoid to make any partition in the my computer. It is safe and very simply to execute. But for that you should have a genuine copy of the MS-DOS which is used as the base of the win-3.1 program.

I also suggest you to run the win 3.1 program into your virtual machine instead of make a partition and run in the same machine, it will might be give you some error or non-responsible activity while you attempting for the dual boot facility into your computer. Before make the partition you should make sure that it will support up to 2GB space in the computer. Though there are lots of software present which are used for the resize the partition of the hard disk drive, but these are some times not works on the NTFS partitions. Remember that the partition should be the limit of the FAT 16 based partitions. Also need a boot manager if you looking for the dual boot facility in your computer. Windows NTLDR will work technically in the partition method. The option will be flashes in the window that “How to Dual-Boot operating system”, it will instruct you for the installation, basically it will appears while you trying to install the Win 3.1 with the Linux.

Re: How to run Windows 3.1 in Windows XP machine?

I am running the Windows 98 SE inside Virtual PC 2004 under the environment of the Windows XP service pack 3 , along with the internet explorer 6 and the outlook service. I runs same in the DOS 6.22 and FreeDOS which are inside of the other machine. As per my knowledge the windows 3.1 is compatible to run with the system which are having the 10 MHZ with 386 processors. So what is your processor environment that you are using with the Windows 3.1. the virtual box and the virtual machine are the works like the visualizers, not the Emulators, they works with the BIOS technique and the CPU instruction set of the machine. I think the open source program are the complex to run the Windows 3.1 16-bit program as the dual boot in the machine.

    Pros for the virtual machine:
    ● No risk at all for installation from the original disks.
    ● ability to pause any moment during the running the application for whatever reason.
    ● graphics adapters /old network /sound cards/chipsets drivers for Windows 3.1 operating system.

    • Able to share files without network on DOS 5 or up
    • Have the ability to configure more than one aspects of system at the same time.
    • Size of the memory.
    • Hard-disk space
    • Able to make changes in the disks or any mistakes
    • Mapping COM and LPT ports to files of the system.
    • Make the interface of the pipes or physical serial ports with the option of waiting for the execution of the modern command.
    • Should be able to configure network adapters
    • support up to 4 adapters
    • map virtual adapters to real adapters, virtual network of only virtual machines or NAT

I think the visualization for the virtual machine will be give a approach for the dual boot facility in the same machine, it will loaded the information of the windows 3.1 16-bit operating system. If you need to install that one in the real computer where you running the windows XP pro operating system. The version of the MS-DOS will be needed for running the windows 3.1 operating system. I think the version of the 5.0 and more than that will simpler for you to run the program in your system.
