help me convert doc to pdf in linux

Friends, I want to convert the .doc file to .pdf file in linux command mode. I dont want to use any openoffice or any other GUI supported packages for this conversion. The GUI interface does not exist because it has to deployed in the server. That is the reason that I have to do it on the terminal mode only. Please help me to do this. Any help from anyone will be appreciative.

You can use the ps2pdf. This will be the best option for you if you want to convert your doc files to pdf files in linux. The complex and difficult PostScript files that can not be handled by Acrobat Distiller can also be processed by ps2pdf. This is very good and very simple to use. I am u;sing this and not got any issue till now. You should also try this and I dont think that you will need any other software to do this.

a2ps is one other software that you can use use for this. This is a command line program that is used to convert the files of different format to the post script. One of my friend told me about this. I have never used it for the .doc format but I am sure that it will help you to do that also. Just try it for the confirmation.

Here are the steps that you can do to convert the files to pdf.
    1. Go to the specific directories
    2. Take the doc files.
    3. query the DB to figure out the new file name
    4. Open word doc with OpenOffice
    5. Now tell the OO to save the files as as .pdf.
    6. Take the .pdf to the correct location.
    7. Delete the old PDF to correct PDF.
    8. delete the old .doc file

Another option to do that is to this with the network connection is that you have to upload the document to the google documents. It will export this file to the pdf format. This is the simplest way to do this. I can say this with confidence because I have used this before and know that it will do this job without any issue.

There is a good news for you that there is a open source Java utility that will allow you for trivial, command-line driven batch conversion from .docs to .pdfs on Linux. This is named as JODConverter. This uses the OpenOffice’s import and export filters. This is one of the best software to do the conversion and will let you to feel free from the disaster that is OpenOffice scripting.
