Mac OS X remove startup sound

I use an iMac and the operating system is really very nice. But I have only one issue regarding the operating system, the startup sound. Has any one changed the startup sound of the mac os x? When i turn off the start up sound the operating system freezes at the start up screen. If you have done it, then please let me know. Thank you.

How does the screen freezes or crashes at startup the mac? And so, imagine the almost impossible, it happens, would be so bad to hear the sound once, then there would be a more troublesome problem to solve. So, I think you should go with the default startup sound, it is not that bad.

I have never experienced a freeze during the assembly phase, or during a render. (Except in broadcast due to a drop-frame. But in this case, it is not a freeze, but a shutdown).
