SBS 2008 Premium virtualized one one host

    Hi,

The last week, i am searching on the net, talked to a lot of (MS) technical people. But nobody can answer my questions. Who has real live experience with different virtualization scenarios in combination with SBS 2008. What are the recommendations based on real life situations (references)

Our Sales really want to Sell virtualized solutions (less hardware) our Tech guys are more negative about this... My task is to make a detailed advise of this for our company.

Our focus for these SB enviroments are between 5 and 30 users, maybe 40.
(Standard is SBS , Exchange, 1x APP server (SQL) and most of the time 1 x RDS server.

Is this possible one host (with redundant power supplies, Raid)

What are the considerations 2 use a second server. Important RTO is not the issue the customer accepts 1 - 2 days downtime max. But DR must me under control.

How to back-up data and how to make a DR back-up; is DPM ready for this in production?
    Memory sizing considerarions
    Disk (performance) / raid sizing
    How many Nic's
    Other considerations (must haves)
    Other tips?

    Please help...

Re: SBS 2008 Premium virtualized one one host

I have a fair platform tse with a server 2008 standard (already done and not very hard after full research) and a sbs 2008. the company where I work sells solutions for SME and sbs is best suited for their profile.

To install Windows SBS 2008 Premium, do the following:

    1. Install Windows SBS 2008 Standard.

For installation instructions about how to install Windows SBS 2008 Standard, see the Windows Small Business Server Installation Guide.

    2. Install the second server by using Windows Server 2008, included with Windows SBS 2008 Premium, and then join it to the Windows SBS 2008 domain.

For second server installation information, see Implementing a Second Server on Your Windows Small Business Server 2008 Network.

    3. Optional: Install SQL Server 2008 on the second server for line-of-business applications. (Installing SQL Server 2008 on the first server is also supported.

For more information, see Using SQL Server in Windows Small Business Server 2008 Premium Edition.

    4. Optional: Install Terminal Services on the second server to share applications.

Depending on your installation type, you are required to use product keys to activate the product.
