It turns out that disk utility enables you to easily enable Journaling for a volume, but the interface provides no way to disable it. Or at least I did not locate this option. According to numerous articles I found, it has been achievable in earlier versions OS X. Then I realized that the function must be obtainable somewhere in the recent versions.

However, journaling bring in a performance consequence for write operations. Whenever the operating system has to modify the system files, you must first update the log, then perform the actual operation and the last mark the transaction as completed within the newspaper. In most situations, this penalty is worth it for this reasons.

    Re: How to disable Journaling?

Mac OS X natively supports file journaling, a feature that is enabled by default on all new volumes. Journaling is a cool feature as it allows a rapid recovery of the system state files should something bad happens to the machine such as a power failure or an accident. With a journaled file system, the operating system can easily undo or redo the last operations performed on the disk without losing meta-data.

    Re: How to disable Journaling?

Journaling is the most suitable for servers requiring high availability servers with volumes containing many files, and servers containing data that is stored at spaced intermission. If a data volume contains read-only is not mission critical, it may not be compulsory to facilitate logging if the performance is more imperative than security.
