can't change wallpaper, system preferences crashes

I am upset with this, if anyone can help I appreciate it. I am on a MacBook Pro (Penryn) running Leopard. Whenever I try to change my wallpaper in System Preferences, it crashes and asks me if I want to report it to Apple. She finally gave me the "Do you reset the settings and relaunch" dialogue. Always keeps crashing. I don't know why I can't change wallpaper and system preferences crashes. Please help me.

I also had the same problem then I able to fix this problem by using following steps. I think you also use it.
You do not necessarily need your discs. In the Finder, press the command key + SHIFT + U all at once to bring up the Utilities folder. Click on "Disk Utility" to check and repair your permissions

I also have the same problem. I go to System Preferences -> Desktop & Screen Saver and set a new wallpaper for the ViewSonic. The new screen has been put to any question. When I tried to change to another screen, Quit System Preferences. I opened my desktop and screen saver and when I clicked on something in the window (be it an icon, the scroll bar on board) System Preferences immediately quit. I restarted the system, but the problem remains. The wallpaper I made for the Viewsonic monitor is still in place but I have no way to change it.

    1) I think problem is related to JPEG, so it can be a good idea to change your screen and / or your screen saver - but of course you can not do that in the usual way from the Preferences window hangs.
    2) Try to connect as a different user to see if the problem exists there. (Create a new user via the Accounts preference panel if you only have a user account so far.)

Launch the "Console" application (in / Applications / Utilities folder) and see the error messages. Try to paste that log here. Be sure to look at system.log as well as console.log .
If the log refers to a crash log, press the "Logs" button (top left) and go to the directory ~ / Library / Logs section to find that particular crash log. Copy and paste back here the last part of that crash log - the part that gives details about the accident last (or preferably attach it in a plain text file, using "accessories" Manage button below when answer).

Same happened to me a few times. Sometimes, if you change to customize the wallpaper lockscreen there remain even after changing the theme. You have to SSH into the phone and remove the wallpaper. I think it was just in the category of mobile and then down. You can find it, it should just be called lockscreenwallpaper. Just click twice to make sure thats it and delete it. you should be fine after that.
