BackTrack 4 Final Release VMWare Image

I have downloaded the Vmware image of BackTrack 4 beta Release. I unzipped the files and browse the image in workstation. Once I started the X server, then just after starting X-serve, I got a weird desktop.

I can't see any icons there as well as no taskbar. I got an outline at the bottom of the display that looks like it might have been the taskbar and there are four squares at the top of the display but they are just blank. There is no KDE windows manager that I can see What and where, I am going wrong? I easily used the 'Start-x' command to start X server after backtrack 4 has completed booting up. if you all have any help then it would greatly appreciated.

    Thanks ...

OK, whatever you are doing earlier, it is just for from everything and I think you need to go for some other considerations, But before going anywhere you should check the MD5 sum? And I think, it is well but just want to make sure. Did you try to run the Live CD in a virtual machine? If not try that and see if you have a similar result. There are so Many causes can be for such issue and depending on the situation , you need to take the right steps and that would absolute solution for you. Did you start KDE or the Crystal-interface window manager?

BackTrack 4 Final Release VMWare Image

    Hello calvin,

Well tried to figure out my problems. Like an stupid, I actually did not check the MD5 sum. I figured since I was able to get the image to actually boot up it was going well during that moments but I should turned back and check.

I tried both KDE and crystal-interface as well and both results in the evaluated the similar result of effects. It is as if the windows manager has been damaged or something like that. I was playing around with it a little more last night and I got some of the menus on the "taskbar" to display up but it is entirely distorted and does not look correct. I have not yet tried the live DVD version - I burned a copy of it in current morning before school and will be giving it a go today and I will report back how that goes.

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated ?

Have you tried the same procedure with the crystal first ? It has a funny habit of having that window manager even though you try to use KDE. According to me, The vix-vmware command will resolve such issue and you should try to go for it.

    BackTrack 4 Final VMWare Image

    Hey guys ,

So , I just used the liveDVD of BackTrack 4 from VMware and it turns out well. There is no any desktop distortion or anything that I got currently. It seems as like it did when I was using backTrack 3. This issue with the VMWare image is actually more and more complex and very strange also ? I am not perfectly sure that how to check the MD5 sum of the vmware image but I will do my best to check it. Anyone have any suggestions what might be causing this weird issue ?

BackTrack 4 Final Release VMWare Image

    Hello all,

I am Just wondering that if there is a working mirror for the BackTrack 4 Final Release VMWare Image? Looks to me there's a pool of two links, one is not functioning at all and the about the others that is running at such a very slow speed it then times out after 1MB or greater than that.

    Cheers.

I am also running with the same problem but I got something from other forums that was official site of Linux but one of the suggested me to go for the torrent from proper image file and you can download that in no time. I did the same and visited at torrents download section and got the appropriate things that he said to me earlier and I think you should also go for the visiting of torrents? Have you tried them before ?
