    Install linux on iBook

    Hello,
I want to install linux on my iBook G4 1.33 GHz and 1.25 GB of RAM because I need it for my school. I downloaded a Debian for ppc but I failed to install it told me there were no sources files. Yet I try with all types of formatting for my Linux partition, but nothing. I decided to download Fedora Core 6 PPC but when I 'I restart my iBook on the DVD install, the installer verified to the DVD and said there were errors. So, if you guys can help me with this then it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
First of all, there are not many version 'official' supporting the CFC. They are often maintained by the community. Some so-called 'official' (which shall remain nameless) are not even updated versions of kernel and software ... is to say. Personally, I installed Xubuntu (Xfce variant of Ubuntu) on an iBook G3 (Clam) ... and I must say (even if it is not my main computer) I am quite satisfied.

    Hello,
The problem is source software remains the same almost everywhere. Some communities will follow more closely than others. I do not want to guide your choice, but look at the forums that interest versions PPC and if the community is well represented and if its members are satisfied (there is a bug, it is one thing that nothing walking is another!).

    Hello,
I installed ubuntu 6.10 for PPC (officially recognized) in dualboot with Leopard on iBook G4 1.33 GHz and 1.25 GB of RAM. For a simple update I'm on 8.04; everything works beautifully. You can have both ubuntu and kubuntu (I do) and I imagine xubuntu. I'm not sure of the possibility to virtualize Linux on ppc mac? I hope this can will help you.

    Hello,
Unfortunately, the versions that have followed '(K) (X) Ubuntu are not stable with all PPC. Since Claud has the same model as you (apparently), I advise you to follow in his footsteps to complete this installation ! So it may well help you. I think you should just give it a try and see if that works for you, if not then you can post back with the error you are getting.

    Hello,
But can we not have Fedora on an iBook like mine, I need it because my school uses it and I would have like them. Thanks to Ubuntu, I did not install but if I can not install I think I should implement. Any other alternative will be appreciated, thanks in advance.

    Re: Install linux on iBook

    Hello,
To my knowledge in the process of installing fedora a few steps easier (kind of time zone, language etc ...) and a difficult question: where and how to partition the swap ","/" and other "home" ...? Now there is a possible answer: "instead of a Linux system already installed. "And then it's automatically done. So you installed ubuntu (with the method I suggest is a breeze), and then "instead" you put fedora.
