Even I had the same problem when I used to use the player with the system to play media files. I thought the issue would be due to the media player but then I got to know that it really wasn't the issue. The problem was actually based with my antivirus program. I had use Kaspersky 2010. When I uninstalled it did not freeze my system anymore. Check out for the antivirus you might be using. It may be the reason that you are facing this problem.

The Incompatibility with the system may be the issue that may relating you with the same case. Windows 7 been highly sophisticated operating system and requires good upgraded software to cope properly. Due to this it may be getting freezed. Uninstall the media player and try to install some other application such as Winamp in order to playback media files. This would not let your system to freeze.

You can do or make the thing to work in your favor by opening the run command menu and then type msconfig to the text field area and then press enter. You will get a general tab and then select the selective startup. On this clear all the boxes of process system.ini, process win.ini and local startup items. After this click on service tab and hide all microsoft services. Disable them all. After that reboot your system.

    2) Go to start menu and then after unhiding all the hidden folders replace the
    ntuser.dat file.
    3) Logon to the system with admin account under safe mode.
    4) Now on start button type C:\Users\Default2. in search bar and hit enter.
    5) Right click NTUSER.DAT and copy it.
    6) Navigate to the path as C:\Users\admin name

Trouble shooting the system may help you to sort the issue. This basically refers that the system may have got some bug issues or virus due to which it is not allowing you to execute the process well. This can only be sorted by trouble shooting. Antivirus may or may not resolve the problem. Better option is that you format your system and then install a new copy of your operating system with the applications.
