    Chkdsk command not recognized

    I am using Sony laptop and Windows Xp install in it . When I run check disk, it shows me message that chkdsk.exe is missing. When I used Window explorer to search that file, Windows did not find that file. I try to run chkdsk in command prompt but it shows error message that 'chkdsk' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. So give me solution on that.

    First check that path entry under the user variable section or system variable section. you have to check system variable section. Double click on path, it will show edit system variable window with the entire value in the variable value. Use CTRL+C to copy it to the clipboard, then open Notepad and press CTRL+V. Edit variable value with this value:
    Code:
    %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\Qt\Qt 4.3.3;
    Press OK to exit.

    I have same problem but I run chkdsk command in safe mode. First Check that you are administrator. Just restart your computer and press F8 key. It will start system in a safe mode. Then open start > command prompt, in that type chkdsk then press enter. If it gives error message then file may be corrupted or missing.

    I am having a Dell laptop with Windows XP operating system and had the same problem some couple of weeks ago. Fortunately i found a solution of it. Here is what i did... First go to help and support center and open system restore window. You can restore your system. It will recover your deleted files. I think it would help you .If it didn't solve your problem then you have to install new Windows XP.
