Error Code 0x80090006 : Unable to log in to Windows XP

    Hi,

I'm receiving the following error message: "A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license for this computer, Error code: 0x80090006" and windows will not allow logon. What is this error and how to fix it. At least tell me where I can find information on how to use recovery console?

What motherboard are you using? What processor are you using? What version of XP are you using? Did you install XP from original CD ? You can try to boot into Safe Mode. Then go to Start > Run and type: regsvr32 regwizc.dll , and hit enter. Then go again to Start > Run and type: regsvr32 licdll.dll , and hit enter again.

Windows XP generates a hash code when installed. Is generated by the hardware component verification. Every time you start XP regenerates the hash code and checks against stored on the hard disk. If a major hardware change occurs, the hash code generated at boot time does not check against the stored, and you get access with an error code 0x80090006.

    Hi,

When your windows XP boots up, you can just cut and paste all the data you need from the old drive onto the new one by dragging and dropping. However you will need to re-install any software and programs you had installed. If the hard drive is the only a medium copy of the data you have then you'll need to put this in another system and copy it across, or copy it to CD using a CD writer in the system you put the drive into. It may be possible to copy the files between drives using the recovery console.
