You press the button "Prt scr" on your keyboard On Ubuntu, usually a small window opens and offers you to record or copy to clipboard capture you just made. You can also drag and drop the thumbnail displayed in a drawing program (eg GIMP.) If you want to edit your captures directly, it works well. If the print screen button not work, you can also run the software directly capture from the menu Applications > Accessories > Screenshot.

You can also use GIMP, it is a popular image editor for Windows which s a freely distributed program for tasks like photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. You can also capture image in ubuntu by selecting Applications-> Accessories -> Capture screen. The new window will provide you some options such as delay time, screen capture or window capture, with or without border… Or if you just want to take a snapshot of the entire screen, use your Print Screen button.

Go to menu > settings > compiz config settings manager >disable screenshot in the extra's section OR (faster) > start a shell (or f12 if you have yakuake) ccsm > disable screenshot in the extra's section. Otherwise you can use other software like IM Video Image Capture, you can easily capture any frames from any videos (with free DirectXOao codec).
