How to determine Ubuntu's version

Hi,
I want to buy a Ubuntu laptop. But as I am new to it so I need to know some basic information on the same. First what is the way to find that which version of Ubuntu I am using currently. Also the kernel version. Second thing which new version of Ubuntu are right now in the market. And also list some features of the same. Thanks.

To get which version of Ubuntu you are using you will have to pass on lsb_release -a in command line terminal. In the same way to get the kernel version you have to type uname -r.

Some older versions are Intrepid Ibex, Hardy Heron, Gutsy Gibbon, Feisty Fawn & Dapper Drake. It runs on minimum system requirement and less disk space.
