The question doesn't elaborate your problem, can you specify at which step you are encountering problems? And what the problem specifically is? This details might help us to help you better. Always post your detailed problems for better and quick help...

I have a Ubuntu 8.10 live CD and i boot from the live CD i get some error and then my PC restarts. On reboot my PC sticks at a command prompt like window and sits there forever. The only solution is to reboot the system manually and then the problem from the first step repeats. I have this AMD computer and this Ubuntu 8.10 is i386 architecture. Can this be the problem? I checked the CD works fine and i installed Ubuntu on my Core 2 Duo machine using the same CD to check what the problem is. Please help...

Re: Installing Ubuntu on AMD system

I think its not the CD that is at problem. AMD processors are 64-bit or x64 capable. They also support i386 architecture. Even core 2 duo is a 64-bit processor, and it let you install ubuntu without any problem. So in this case the problem can be the CD-ROM or its connectivity cables. [Power connection and Data connection (IDE/SATA)]. Check if these things are not at problem. Try changing the CD-ROM and you might get Ubuntu working on your AMD system too...
