How to install Virtual PC drivers on Windows 7

I did a clean install of Windows Ultimate 7 RTM (32bit) on my P105-S6147. The only driver not found was for the camera card slot, so I used the Vista 32bit driver and it works great. I have Windows 7 running in Virtual PC. Everything seems to work except the sound card. It says it's not installed, but it is and works fine in it's native Vista-64 OS. I tried to install the drivers but it belched back the message stating I didn't meet the minimum requirement.

Once this is installed you will need to create a Virtual Machine from which you can install Windows 7 on. If you are upgrading from Vista to Windows 7 Beta, the virtual machine network services driver be uninstalled. Once both the Windows Virtual PC and the virtual Windows XP environment are installed, Windows Virtual PC provides a simple wizard to set up Windows XP Mode with just a few clicks. You need to reinstall Virtual PC to get this back - but you will not lose any of your virtual machines by doing this (so do not fear - it just takes a minute or to do - and you will be up and running).

Trying out Windows 7 isn’t quite as difficult as you may think, as you don’t need to wipe or dual boot your existing Vista/XP installation to try out the new Microsoft operating system. Unfortunately, Virtual PC only supports 32-bit virtual machines. If you want to run any 64-bit virtual machine you'll need to either install Windows Server 2008. When you download Virtual PC (and XP mode), you will need to install the actual Windows XP into Virtual PC as if it were a different computer. I am currently running windows 7 beta with windows xp on a virtual machine and i am getting the same screen black-out when switching from 7 to xp. Just moving the mouse solves the problem.

The virtual network stack for the device emulator isn't compatible with Windows Virtual PC, and you can't install Virtual PC 2007 on Windows 7. When you download Virtual PC (and XP mode), you will need to install the actual Windows XP into Virtual PC as if it were a different computer. XP Mode will give you "seemless" support as if you were running the program in Windows 7. To run Windows Virtual PC (and with it, XPM), your computer has to have the Intel VT or AMD-V features enabled in the BIOS. To find out if your PC is virtualization capable, please visit the Windows Virtual PC support page.
