    ATI Drivers for Fedora 9

    Hi,
I have a desktop system. Recently my Windows crash and I do not have a installation disc for the same. So just for using purpose I want to install Fedora 9 in it. As it is a freeware tool I can use it for some time till I decide to buy a Windows disc. Here I had install it from Fedora 9 disc. Now It boots up and the desktop displayed properly. But after some time the system crashed. I had a ATI Radeon graphic card in my system. So I had install the card from the CD which I go with it. Does the ATI card is causing the system to carsh. Because I had heard a lot about ATI and Linux based conflicts. Any suggestion. Thanks in advance.

As per I know the newest drivers of ATI is for Fedora 8. You will have to search for more on the ATI site. Recently ATI has announced a new drives for Linux support. You can read the below thread for complete information. Do this remove the card from your computer and see weather Fedora is working or not. If it works then you will have to use your system without it. Because each time a driver conflict will crash your system.

Fedora is a free ware open source Linux based operating system. I am not sure about the current drivers which are available to make your ATI card work. Basically the software is quiet easy to use and manage. It runs in GUI mode so the interface is more user friendly. Second thing unlike Windows Fedora does not has its own set of proprietary drivers. Whatever drivers it comes with are developed by the world wide developers. You will have to see more on Google.

It is unfortunate that current drivers does not support the kernel. So you have to wait till ATI issue such update. Try to search on the official site of ATI and download the latest drivers. Run those drivers on your Fedora computer and check back again. But still the system crash then I will recommend you to use Fedora 8. It is a stable version and there is not conflict issue arises simply for ATI drivers.
