Installing Ubuntu as a Windows application

Install Ubuntu a Linux distribution, in the same manner as a Windows application. The installation process is simplified and you can uninstall at any time via the Linux menu Add / Remove Programs. Once installed, Windows and Ubuntu will be defined in dual-boot that is you now have the choice between starting a Microsoft or Ubuntu. Everything is fully automated for our greatest happiness the world of Linux is now just a click away.

This type of installation is specific to the Ubuntu distribution and this procedure is called Wubi. We will see that this is exactly the same as installing any software. I tell you right away: no command line to enter, no partitioning operations risky, no file management mode, etc.. This method is useful for everyone, for all users.

    Download Wubi

Wubi is the name of the application to install the application in Windows. Begin by downloading

You must be connected to the Internet during the installation process. If your connection is unstable or inefficient, then prefer to use a live CD of Ubuntu that will offer the same opportunities installation described below. The only difference is that the files are copied from the CD and not the Internet - where updates required thereafter.

    Installing Ubuntu

A single screen is set before starting the installation process. In other words, can hardly be easier.

    Partition Installation

Select the location of your choice. By default, C: is selected in the same manner as a conventional program, it will install on the system partition - for example, C: ProgrammesMozilla Firefox

    Language

    Select English language.

    Space dedicated

Ubuntu requires at least 5 GB but I would advise you to allocate 10 GB is more than enough to install many applications. And then, this solution allows to test Linux for a period more or less short. If you want as your primary operating system, you should opt for a traditional installation method - which is not very complicated.

    Desktop Environment

Ubuntu uses the default GNOME desktop fairly close to Mac OS on certain aspects (task bar at the top of the screen, for example). Kubuntu is based on him when in KDE - in its fourth version, an office close to Windows. Mythbuntu is dedicated to Media Center. This is a specific method but note that the implementation of Media Center is also available in other environments. Xubuntu uses an ultra-minimalist office with false airs of GNOME. A book to inefficient machines, the interface is very bare. I recommend you choose GNOME or KDE to start.

It remains for us to define a username and password in the fields provided for this purpose.

    Accessibility

Accessibility A button gives you some extra options in terms of mobile and visual aids. To learn if any.

    Finalization

You are now ready to install Ubuntu. Simply click on the Install button.

Wait several tens of minutes and then restart the system. You can now choose between using Windows or Ubuntu. To do this, use the Up and Down keys on your keyboard and then press Enter to launch the desired system.

Once started, Ubuntu will ask for your username and password - even those that you mentioned in the previous step

Re: Installing Ubuntu as a Windows application

I tried to install on my external hard drive (e-sata) Ubuntu. But obviously there must be compatibility problems with my computer because it crashes often after a moment.

Maybe this is actually a problem of hardware compatibility. It's like my external USB drive, all PCs will not accept to boot a USB HD. For the SD card, not tested but I am tempted to test it on a USB stick 4 or 8GB to see.
