Acer Aspire 5100 Bios Setup utility

    Hi,
I have a Acer Aspire 5100 laptop. It is not detecting DVD RW. Currently I am using a external DVD RW. I had checked in BIOS also. The DVD is not listed nor it comes on the boot screen. I had checked the cable and other settings. But still no result. I think here I need to flash my BIOS before some major problem occurs. Recently due to virus problem I had formatted my computer. I had not used the DVD here the formatting is done from the hard disk. As I had copied the OS in the backup drive. So I had run the set up from there. Any suggestions really appreciate. Thanks in advance.

Before flashing your BIOS better update your drivers and other firmware. Because if you have wrongly flashed the chip then it is possible then your laptop will never work. It is true that virus corrupts the BIOS. But before that run a full system scan under Safe Mode. Then check that your DVD drive is getting adequate power or not. Press the button on the drive to remove the tray out. If it does not comes out then there is no power. Second thing go to Device Manager and try to see the DVD drive. If it is not listed then change the cable for the DVD drive and check back again.

Go to the below link and download the ISO file. It is a ACER bios update service. You will need a CD/DVD burner for the same. Attache a external DVD RW and burn the file by using Nero. Then restart your computer and boot from your DVD. If you do not found your boot option then press TAB continuously from keyboard when your computer boots up. From the menu select the DVD drive and hit enter. The bootable disk will update your BIOS.

There are several third party software's which can flash your BIOS and make your system work properly. But you will have to take care you must download and update a wrong version of your BIOS. Properly note down the version of BIOS at the boot time. Then download WinFlash service. And run the BIOS update by using the WinFlash service.
