Volume control issue on Intel Mac Mini

Hi guys , I got the MAC Mini from my cousin but its having really wired issue on my Mac Mini, the volume settings automatically sets to middle range every time i boot my mac mini. Means volume settings revert back to defaults by itself. It doesn't remembers volume control settings. Does any one same kind of issue? or someone can help me to get rid of this problem?

Which model of intel mac mini? Is it a new model? some new models have problem where the audio board will go bad. When this happens you have no volume control function and the computer will find no audio device. There is also a cable issue that arises from time to time but it is far less frequent of an issue.

I don't remember perfectly but on my iMac in the Right-click on volume control icon then in sound properties there was an option to set the default sound channel or something along those lines. This makes that channel (front) the default for adjusting the volume.

Searching on google, i got on this result is that it happens on Mini Core Duo and nothing else for some reason. Try installing updates if availabe. Also try to use the Tinker Tool to mute the start up volume.

Ala MacFixIt, this is a preferences problem and easily solved:

To alleviate this problem, navigate to the preference files and move the following ones to the Trash and then restart.

Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > Audio

The files will be:
1. com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
2. com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist

Worked for me.
