How to format the D drive with OS installed on it

On one of the computer i use at my office, the primary OS is Windows XP that is installed on C drive and On D drive there is some other Operating system installed by my friend. Now i need to format the D drive but windows won't allow me to do. I don't want to install any OS on the said drive, i just tried to format by right clicking the drive and selecting the Option Format. I use to get a error message with this steps. Please help me out.

I don't know hats went wrong with your system. I am also having a dual os Computer both are XP operating system. But when i was needed to format the secondary OS that is D drive, i did it the same way by right clicking and Format. I guess you might have mistake at the boot up. In order to delete D drive you must booted with the C drive windows xp and than right click the Drive and select format and than Quick Format. Hope it will work for you !!

In newer versions of Windows, you can easily with Windows CD and during the preparation process initialization, tell Windows to delete the current partition and install the new partition. But anyways, In your case first restart the system again and while booting choose your Primary OS and Press F8 and choose boot into safe mode and try again.. Thats it.. Do let me know the result.

Thanks a lot for the quick response and valuable help friends. i was making the mistake while booting in the same OS whom i was trying to delete. Anyways, it helped me and i successfully formatted the D drive. Help appreciated.
